HODGDON – Charles W. Griffin Jr., 76, died April 2, 2012, at Houlton Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 10, 1935, son of Charles W. Sr. and Doris Mae Griffin.

He grew up in Gardner, Mass., with his two sisters, Alma (Kelly) and Judith (Palmer); and three brothers, David, Paul and Robert. In 1957, Charlie proposed to the love of his life, Natalie J. Fitts, then promptly left for Germany for his tour of duty with the Army. He and Natalie did marry and had 52 years together. A box of dozens and dozens of letters from Germany to Natalie remain as testament to the love that grew through the years.

Charlie and Natalie raised their three children, Sharon, Brian and Wayne in Medfield, Mass.

In 1977, they moved from suburbia to Lyndeborough, N.H., a tiny house with a huge barn and 50 acres to begin 30 years of raising kids and animals, growing fruits and veggies, harvesting firewood and a favorite, maple sugaring. All who knew Charlie feel grateful to have had him in their lives.

He is missed by his many friends and families, including his six wonderful grandchildren, Stephen, Paul, Gregory, Rebecca, Melanie and Joseph, who provided so much love and company. The family thanks the home health aides who lovingly cared for Charlie so he could stay in his home these past few years.

A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be determined. For an online memory book and to leave condolences, please visit
