WISCASSET, Maine — The interior of a Route 1 carwash was destroyed Wednesday morning when a car inside caught fire.

Wiscasset EMS Director Roland Abbott said no one was hurt in the blaze, which was reported at 8:08 a.m. Abbott said there were considerable flames issuing from the building when fire crews arrived and that the occupants of the car inside escaped unscathed.

The building that houses the carwash, which is next to a building that contains a McDonald’s restaurant, a convenience store and a bank, was still standing after firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in less than a half-hour. At noontime the charred remains of the car were still inside the carwash.

Abbott said crews from Wiscasset, Alna and Edgecomb responded to the call and the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

    1. What?  Spend his own money!  That is what we pay the fire dept. for. I would have  put in the extra money, or, wait………… No better yet, put it in drive and pulled out of the building! But I was not there so I don’t know what the actual case is, but it is too bad, it was a nice wash. This company has several of these carwash’s. The one in Thomaston is also very nice and is run by a couple real nice older guys, real respectful  for carwash guys!  Lol   I wish Wiscasset carwash a speedy recovery. Good luck!
