OLD TOWN, Maine — An Acton man was arrested late Thursday afternoon after he threatened to beat up his girlfriend, police say.
Jason Chretien, 26, got into a heated argument with the woman at a Bennoch Road residence, according to Old Town police Sgt. Scott Casey.
Police interviewed Chretien and the woman and had enough evidence to arrest him, but he refused to cooperate so police subdued him using a Taser, Casey said.
Chretien is facing charges of domestic violence criminal threatening and refusing to submit to arrest, Casey said.
He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail where he remained Friday, the sergeant said. The woman was not injured.

Another lame useless story!!
Remember when the public was told that Tasers would be used by police only in rare cases when the alternative would be use of deadly force?
That’s not what “we the public” was told when our local police department started carrying them. Would you rather have them use their “night sticks?”
Tasing people for compliance is morally and ethically unacceptable.
Oh really? How’s your morality meter when he punches his girlfriend in the mouth?
I’m wondering if some of the individuals who justify brute behavior even have a morality meter. What do you think? Does the presence of a Taser escalate or calm a situation?
Im sure she must have done something to deserve it. And Im also sure that whatever it was,was no more morally objectionable than punching her in the pie hole.
Yes, the article says he refused to cooperate. Obviously the article doesn’t articulate the situation and why the officer’s choose to use the taser. Using a taser to simply get someone to comply without anything further would certainly be unacceptable…..
Well…night sticks certainly are much more gratifying, but on the other hand it sure is funny when some deserving punk is flopping around like a fish.
That is EXACTLY what was said. Just like seat belts when that law was first passed, “just the kids to start with. Loss of freedom doesnt happen over night. It’s done, and being done incrementally.
Don’t tase me, bro.
Please BDN I’m only asking a question.
Do the Police arrest men for every accusation of domestic abuse???
Police arrest people, not just men, when they believe, based on their investigation, that it is more likely than not that a crime occurred. Threatening to beat someone up is criminal threatening, which is a crime.
The level of force used to subdue this man was within reason for the situation. There was enough evidence to arrest him. He was asked to comply…refused. He was told to comply…refused. He was made to comply….tried to refuse! The “use of force” must be judged from the perspective of the officer on scene, rather then from 20/20 hindsight. The reasonableness of the officer’s decision was based on facts and circumstances known to the officer at the time the force was used.
It sure is easy to sit back and criticize police on their decisions when you don’t have to make them. No law in this country requires that a cop has to be
right when he or she uses force on whatever level. They only need to be “Reasonable”, that’s
the law! Was a particular use of force reasonable for the officer
given the totality of the circumstances known to the officer at the time of the
incident? That’s it!
What did they do before Tasers were invented? I couldn’t put even one hand on an out of control kid in a school to force compliance. Maybe if adults could pick a kid up and put him or her in a chair for a timeout when they were 5, we wouldn’t have the big problems we face on the streets when they are 25. What do you think?
DONT TAZE ME BRO!!!
If these Tasers are such a blessing to humanity lets sell them at Walmart so everybody can use them to uphold truth justice and the american way. A little bit on superman hanging on your belt or hiding in your purse. Get some lip and knock en down.
