MILLINOCKET – Joseph T. Phelan, 83, passed away April 9, 2012, at his home. He was born July 4, 1928, in Waterbury, Conn., the son of Joseph T. and Anna (McNamara) Phelan.
Joe was a veteran of the Army and also the Air Force.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Barnett) Phelan; a son, Michael Phelan and Peg of Lewiston; a daughter, Michelle Peduto and David of Sewickley, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Kim Levesque and Al of Millinocket; seven grandchildren, Samuel, Zachary and Maggie Phelan of Lewiston and Elizabeth, Emily, Samuel and Joseph Peduto of Sewickley, Pa.; three stepgrandchildren, Jeremiah Levesque and Sandra of Bangor, Jessica Levesque of Millinocket and Kylie Harrington and Mike of Nobleboro; three sisters, Mary Louise Bergin and Jeanne Phelan of Waterbury, Conn., and Joan Anderson of Pittsfield, Mass.; three great-stepgrandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mary; and siblings, William, Anne and John. The family would like to thank Community Health and Counseling Services and Hospice for the excellent care given to Joe during his last days.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby St., Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr presiding.
