NEW SWEDEN – Raymond A. Bernier, 68, passed away April 10, 2012, while surrounded by his family at his residence. He was born Sept. 7, 1943, in Brunswick, the son of Raymond and Florence (Brillant) Bernier.
Ray’s loyalty to Loring Air Force Base began with four years in the U.S. Air Force, 30 years of dedicated civil service including being awarded Civilian of the Year and more than 15 years as the head of maintenance for the Loring Development Authority. He was also a proud veteran and a member of Stockholm American Legion for more than 30 years. He enjoyed RVing with his dog Chi Chi, as well as ATVing and snowmobiling.
He is survived by his five children and their spouses, Brian and Anja Voisine of New Sweden, Lori Plourde of Bangor, Sandra and Bill Plourde of Laconia, N.H., Raymond and Heidi Bernier Jr. of Oakland and Karen and Chuck Buckland of Medina, Ohio. He is also survived by two sisters, Pauline Schlipf of Salorsburgh, Pa., and Georgette Richardson of Harpswell; one brother, Donald Bernier of Bedford, Va.; 11 grandchildren, 3 1/2 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Adella Johnson; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Chi Chi. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Alaine, in 2008.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the administrative building of Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou, with the Rev. Raymond Morency, celebrant. Interment will be after the services at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Raymond’s name to Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
