GREENE, Maine — Food wholesaler Town and Country Foods is recalling approximately 2,057 pounds of ground and tenderized beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Safety and Inspection Service announced in a press release Wednesday.
The following products are subject to recall:
• 5- and 10-pound boxes of 2-, 2.6-, 3- and 4-oz. “Town and Country Foods XL Hamburg Patties.”
• 5- and 10-pound boxes of 2-, 2.6-, 3- and 4-oz. “Town and Country Foods Hamburg Patties.”
• 10-pound box containing variously weighted bags of “Town and Country Beef for Stewing.”
• 6-, 8- and 10-oz. “Town and Country Beef Sirloin Fillets.”
• 5- and 10-pound boxes containing variously weighted bags of “Town and Country XL Hamburg.”
• 5- and 10-pound boxes containing variously weighted bags of “Town and Country Hamburg.”
Each case contains a label with the establishment number “EST. 9710” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products also contain the following packaging codes: 10952, 10962, 10972, 11002 and 11012.
The problem was discovered after company lab testing confirmed a positive result for E. coli O157:H7, according to the press release. Town and Country Foods and the inspection service said they have not received any reports of illness associated with consumption of the recalled products. I always get my steak and burgers well done, unless I know the butcher and his practices and his operation, or did the cuts myself.
