BANGOR – Thomas J. Chamberlain, 67, passed away just before midnight April 9, 2012, at a Bangor health care facility. Tom was born May 31, 1944, in Lansing, Mich., to Harmon and Betty Chamberlain.
He grew up in Lansing, Mich., and shortly after graduating from Central Michigan University, he moved to Maine where he spent the rest of his life. Tom worked for Courier Gazette and eventually for Department of Maine Fish and Wildlife, where he edited the department’s magazine. After retiring from this position, he held a variety of editing and publishing jobs. Tom’s passion in life was first and foremost his children and grandchildren, but he had many hobbies including photography, acting in community theater, singing, painting with watercolors, crafting miniatures, woodworking and helping his friends in any way possible.
Tom is survived by his best friend, Mary Chamberlain of Bangor; daughter, Anne (Chamberlain) Small and husband, Jon Small, of Bangor; son, Paul Chamberlain and wife, Sherry Chamberlain, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; son, Brian John “B.J.” Chamberlain of Rockland; sister, Jane Chamberlain of Austin, Texas; granddaughters, Katie and Taylor Small of Bangor; granddaughter, Serendipity Anne Moores Chamberlain of Austin, Texas; grandson, Cooper Chamberlain of Brooklyn, N.Y.; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son, Robert Chamberlain. The family thanks the staff of Ross Manor for the tender care Tom received during his stay.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, at All Souls Congregational Church, 10 Broadway, Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher, officiating.
