OXFORD, Maine — More than 60 people lost their jobs Wednesday when CCS Global Holdings closed its Oxford branch.

Gino Sanchez, a human resources manager at the Newton, Mass.-based company, said the closing was a “business decision” but said he couldn’t elaborate. The company’s other locations in New Hampshire and Massachusetts were unaffected, he said.

Sanchez said 64 people were employed at the call center, which made collections for credit card companies.

CCS, which stands for Credit Collection Services, opened the Oxford location in the summer of 2003. They were located at 891 Main St., in a building owned by developer John Schiavi.

Town Manager Michael Chammings said he hadn’t heard about the closing until this morning, but said he was confident that economic development in town would make up for the call center’s losses “tenfold,” and pointed out that the casino is holding a job fair on Saturday.

Call centers “haven’t been the most stable source of jobs in the state of Maine,” Chammings said.

    1. The casino is not open yet, how can you say no net jobs if the place hasn’t even hired everyone or even opened?

      1.  The casino will not even hire 60 people now that they have cancelled 75% of the promised development and the gambling casino’s all over the country say they are  losing money.

        1. “…they have cancelled 75% of the promised development…”

Do you have a link to support that statement? I believe the project is being done in phases.

And you know exactly how many people they are hiring?

  1. Hey LePage where are the jobs you lied about?  All I ever read about are the weekly layoffs, firings  and business shut downs all over Maine. The Casinos only have a finite amount of jobs they can offer. Everyone in Maine can’t get a job with a Casino. So where are the jobs LePage? You put us LAST even behind Mississippi in job creation. The 50Th, worst state in the Country.

    1. LePage has been on the job for a little over one (1) year. The limousine liberals have been cooking us for the past three (3) decades. That is 30 years for those of you from Augusta.

        1. JayC, face it, no matter what jobs are created here in Maine, you and your ilk would NEVER give LePage credit for them, yet you are always quick to blame him for the jobs lost.

          1. I guess the best way to prove your point Josey would be for jobs to actually be created in Maine wouldn’t it?

          2. Reopening the East Millinocket mill and the new Carbonite jobs I believe were in Maine. ABS opened up in Brunswick, Molnycke Healthcare opened in Brunswick.

          3. Come on now let’s be a bit open minded for a second, did LePage create jobs? Yes he did, just ask his family….

        2. LePage did not say he was going to create jobs, but to help. He has only been there one year. Can you give him his term? LePage did not create this mess. Dems should look in the mirror since it happened on their watch.

  2. So how many “incentives” did Oxford collections get to locate there in the first place?  Good luck getting that money back.

  3. Yet another business closing and even more people out of work.    What happened to LePage’s “promise” that he would help create jobs?  There have been more jobs lost in the last year than gained.

    1.  This is a business with reach beyond Maine.  I would ask what happened to Obama’s Hope and Change…

  4. Are 92% women?  The Mittser said the Obama administration has a war on women and 92% of the 800,000 people who lost jobs are women…  somehow I think there is a statistical error here.
