VEAZIE, Maine — A local man was summoned about 3:30 a.m. Sunday after a Veazie police officer found him on a bench at Veazie Community School.

When Officer Brian Sirois stopped by the school to see what Charles Eames, 27, was doing there at that hour, he found a small plastic bag containing a usable amount of marijuana on Eames’ person and summoned him for possession, Officer Dain Bryant said Monday.

Bryant said the police report indicated that Eames told Sirois that he was at the school to cool off after his girlfriend, with whom he lived nearby, had broken up with him.

  1. Obviously some people know nothing about Officer Safety! If the guy hadnt had been on public property late at night he wouldnt have been searched for weapons. Here’s an idea, if you are going to do illegal drugs, stay home and dont bring them on school property. What if he had pills or monkey dust and dropped it on school property and  a child found it. Would you feel bad then?? Way to go Officer Sirois!! Kuddos to you

  2. I know officer Sirois personally and he is probably one of the nicest officers in the neighborhood, I don’t believe the fact that he just walked up to this guy and requested to search him, and for the guy to be there at 3am puzzles some thought. Veazie unfortunately is known for a large amount of drug issues so Sirois did an excellent job, he is a LAW enforcement officer and if someone is breaking the law than he is doing nothing wrong but enforcing it.

      1. It had nothing to do with him breaking the law being on the bench. More then likely the officer was patroling Town Property and found him there. Its his fault that he got summonsed, not the officers. Officer Sirois was, as i can see it , DOING HIS JOB that we pay him to do!!  Next time maybe the nice law abiding citizen (HA!) should leave his drugs home with his girlfriend.

        1. Is there a curfew in Veazie? So if I decide to take a late night walk and take a break on a bench, its fine to be harrassed and searched? It doesnt say anyone called and reported him acting suspicious or a call saying there was a crime in the neighborhood…

  3. If you take notice under the article published today is a picture of Mr. Eames, that article shows he has history with law enforcement in August he was stopped in Brewer and faced felony trafficking for cocaine and bath salts, wonder how he is not doing time?

  4. All of this while the State is currently pushing an anti-domestic violence initiative.  So, the man does the right thing by walking away to cool off.  Decides to sit on a bench and ends up getting summoned for a usable amount in possession.  Since when is sitting on a bench on public property probable cause for a search?  The time of day is really irrelevant, unless we are now in a socialist state.  Don’t let the time of day that he was sitting on the bench puzzle you too much…not like people schedule ahead of time when they are going to get into an argument with someone.  The officer has the ability to use discretion, he could’ve simply given him a warning on the possession issue; after all, marijuana is now partially legal…  Sounds to me like it was a sloooowww night for the officer.  I know when I was a law enforcement officer I had more important things to worry about than someone in possession of a usable amount of marijuana…then again, I wasn’t a local LEO.

    1.  a BDN article is not a full police report. Also, “when you were a law enforcement officer” should have been followed with “I knew nothing about case law”, because even the Supreme Court takes into account the time of day on various issues, including searches.

  5. poor guy leaves the house to cool off so no one gets hurt . probly should have stayed home and got a domesic violence charge. I say he did the right thing and the officer should have asked him a few questions and then went on his way. no he had to make his life a little more miserable than it already was just so he can get a raise things like this look good when your getting evaluated at work.

  6. I could tell you a sorry about “Great Dain” . Why did they search him ? Leave the poor guy alone.   Not like all law enforcement officers are the most moral people in the world. Maybe he did brake the law . Not like most cops don’t .  Thing is when police do it nothing is done most the time.

  7. Everyone is assuming that there is even a girlfriend and or a fight, people will say anything  when they find themselves  being questioned.

  8. I didnt notice his mugshot under the article, obviously he’s on bail for his previous charges and is subject to search..

  9. no not out on bail………….what you can “inform” about others can get you out of almost anything!!  Also depending on the reporter, depends on how much information the readers get!
