ROCKLAND, Maine — A Washington man has filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart, claiming he suffered permanent injuries from a fall at its Rockland store.

The lawsuit on behalf of Edward Billings was filed April 17 in Knox County Superior Court.

The lawsuit claims that Billings was walking down an aisle at the store in April 2009 and tripped over a long sign with a metal frame that was on the floor. Billings suffered serious injuries to his knee and tore cartilage and ligaments, the lawsuit stated.

Billings claims the store’s negligence led to his injuries.

Billings is represented by attorney Michael Bigos of Lewiston.

Greg Rossiter, a Wal-Mart spokesman, said while he does not have details on the lawsuit, Wal-Mart places the security and safety of its customers as a top priority. He said Wal-Mart makes sure its stores are clean and safe.

  1. Another case of “Let’s dip into the deepest pockets”.  Walmart as a corporation will not take a loss, these costs will be passed to the consumer in the prices of the products we all buy every day.   So, you’re welcome Eddie, here’s my dollars to you!

what a bunch of bs this line is. have you ever tried to squeeze around huge pallets of product in the middle of aisles at the augusta store?

    1. It isn’t just the Augusta store. In Rockland there is so little space between the aisles that it is literally cramped, then they have to put sales displays right in the way too. I shop everywhere else first, Wal-Mart last.

  3. in feb. 2001, a disabled 76year old greeter who was hard of hearing and could not walk a straight line because of age, and was a ww2 combat vet, was told by a walmart manager to go up a ladder at the skowhegan walmart. he fell. he died, right there on the walmart floor. dont bother looking in the BDN achieves, it is not there. wabi covered the story

the next of kin waited 2 years to get any settlement because walmart used the old ‘starving out the victim’ insurance, if ur a insurance agent, you know what that means.

it gets worse. 6 years later, well read:
