BREWER, Maine — Police went to the Village Green Motel earlier this month after a patron called to say a couple with a machete was trying to get into rooms, Brewer police Cpl. Steve Boyd said Friday.
Police found Jason H. Brown, 39, and Maria A. Pounds, 40, going door to door at the motel at around 4:30 p.m. April 12, and they also found injured motel guests, the corporal said.
In one room, police found a 72-year-old man who had been threatened and pushed into his bathroom by Brown and was blocked from leaving by Pounds, Boyd said.
In another room, officers found a 52-year-old man and 42-year-old woman bloody from being assaulted by Brown and Pounds, the corporal said.
Why the couple assaulted the motel patrons is not known, Boyd said.
“Maybe they were looking for drugs. We’re not sure,” the corporal said.
Both Brown and Pounds list their residence as the Hope House, a Bangor shelter for people struggling with drugs and alcohol, and both were charged with felony burglary as well as two counts of assault, Boyd said.
They both were taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor and could spend up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the felony burglary charges. Both remained in jail on Friday, Boyd said.
“The machete was located in the old man’s room,” the corporal said.
Brown was convicted of disorderly conduct in March and criminal trespass in January, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News.
In the last decade, Pounds has been convicted of acquiring drugs by deception, sale and use of drug paraphernalia, violating condition of release, criminal mischief and twice for assault, the BDN listings state.

they need to shut the hope house down. period.
They hope to have drugs ! ehhe

ah yes, then they will be free to sleep behind your garage and on the doorstep of the airport stripmall stores. get a clue. Hope house serves a purpose … these clearly need jail more than hope house
“ah yes, then they will be free to sleep behind your garage and on the doorstep of the airport stripmall stores”
I can’t go to the airport stripmall without being hit up for cash lately. I’ve been asked for money the last 3 or 4 times I went there.
I’d like a true accounting of how many people Hope House has actually helped vs. enabled by being little more than a revolving door. Then I might be more convinced it’s worth it.
hmmm
Welcome to Brewer!
Where drug addicts REALLY know how to party.
I once knew a girl from Brewer…
“‘Maybe they were looking for drugs. We’re not sure,’ the corporal said.”

YA THINK!?!?!? He’s a regular Einstein, that Boyd.
my thoughts too!
April 12? Why bother to publish this more than a week after it happened?
Now that’s a good question!
They were waiting for 4/20
They would have just chilled out waiting for 4/20. More than likely they were looking for some dangerous drugs.
Perhaps they were looking for some diesal?
National drug test day is 4/21.
It is only a felony to assault someone with a machete?
What else would it be?
Felonies are serious crimes, misdemeanors are lesser crimes punishable by less than a year in jail.
I was thinking the same thing, attempted murder would sound more fitting….
They will claim the machete wasn’t loaded. I wonder if he has a permit to carry?
Yea, they should jack it up to a misdemeanor. Drink tea much? Im not sure which is more surprising, your statement,or the fact that 6 others like it.
Given all the machete incidents in Bangor and now Brewer over the last few years I’m beginning to wonder what store is selling them? Or is there a Machete salesman walking around town? Are they giving them away FREE with every new McD’s Un-happy Meal? Are bath salt dealers giving them out with the purchase of x grams? Where are these people getting all these machetes? Is EMAN passing them out next to the free coke needles? Is some local college teaching “How to be a crack wh@re 101” and a machete is part of the curriculum tools? To quote 4 non blonds: “I say hey! What’s going on?”
They both were taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor and could spend up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the felony burglary charges. Key word here is COULD, we all know they wont see but 90 days they will be sentenced 5 years with all but 90 days suspended, this seems to be the case more often then none. Sad is all I can say.
That’s just what I was going to say. All the time I read about this maximum sentence of 10-30 years….for things that they have been arrested for several times before. 90 Days isn’t even long enough to fully get clean, just enough to make them REALLY excited to get back out there in shoot em up.
I personally would not mind paying to have them put away for the next decade. Maybe methadone would be a way to keep these people under control? (joking)
You can thanks good ole Mr. Almy for that one…He had a heroic conviction rate, which isnt hard if you plea every single sentence down to the minimum…Someone PLEASE run against him and get him OUT of the DA”s office.
I don’t call plea bargaining a conviction rate- shame on him if he does….he is responsible for these people going continuously in & out of jail…
I find it unfortunate that upon arriving the police did not have to use their service weapons to dispatch these two subjects.
Bangor is getting dangerous
It took place in Brewer.
same thing
Not in my book.
Basically the same thing. You know how they always say every city has the proverbial “other side of the tracks”? Well Bangor and Brewer are the same on either side. ha ha ha
Bangor, Brewer area.
Trying compete with the Waldo County crowd is futile.
WTH is this world coming too? Geez….
Well my hero Mr. Carlson started the hope house to bring all the people closer to town .
Yes, I heard he was a real “hands on” kinda guy.
Ok, new rule. Whenever some one is assaulted and a machete is involved, print the story some time that day, the next at the latest. Ok, ? Good.
Belated April Fools!
How vicious! Machetes do some serious damage. I hope these 2 get such a long sentence that even with the standard time hacked off, they don’t come out until they’re too old to harm anyone again.
Although these two appear like out-of-stater’s to me, they listed their home as Hope House in Bangor. Where did they come from? Seems Bangor (area as well) is attracting some very dangerous characters from outside the state. I do not know any of the number facts or percentages, but of all those entering Maine and Bangor for some reason as identified by police and in the BDN, (could it be drug and alcohol assistance?) end up with their continual performances in crime, just as they did back home or elsewhere. These people are drifters with no life…and seems they want nobody else to have a life either.

where was Thayne Ormbys from? Colin Koehler?
would you like me to produce a list of Mainers who have committed murder in other states?
here’s an article about an upstanding young man, named cory (not jose or juan) who committed a home invasion Mass. What are the fine citizens of that town thinking about Mainers?
http://middlesexda.com/news/press-release-archive.php?reference=548
Some people can’t tell the difference between Houlton and Harlem. This is stranger-on-stranger crime, something new to Maine. Let a few more of them in, and you will need three locks on every door, like in New York City — or worse, a hurricane fence around your property and barbed wire on your roof like they have on 103rd Street and Elmhurst Avenue in NYC. If you think there is no difference between Mainers and these people, please go live among them.
How about not comparing New York City (which I lived for 5 years) to a city that is so miniscule in size and population? Yes, NYC has more crime, it also has a population of 8 million people as of 2010. Bangor has a population of of about 35,000. I felt safer in NYC than I have any other city I have lived. Yes there is crime. However, there are also neighborhood watches and police everywhere. Do not compare things you know NOTHING about and that are not even comparable due to the fact they are nothing alike.
Oh, I may know a bit about NYC. Why don’t you try Atlantic Avenue in Flatbush?
Tell me, did they take the barbed wire off the roofs of the houses in Elmhurst? The people in NYC are just like Mainers, right? No difference, except the machetes, perhaps.
no you are
What is this area coming to?
“When there is no more room at the Meth clinic, the emotionally crippled will walk the earth. Seeking more brains. Cus’ they don’t have any”. http://youtu.be/oykvs8ePij8
I know that motel, it’s a nice place to live but I wouldn’t want to visit
LMAO! Made my morning when I spit my coffee up over that one!
10 years in Prison? Yeah, right. They deserve much more than that but they won’t get it due to the revolving door justice that’s doled out in Maine courts. Commit a crime, walk into the courtroom to get a slap on the wrist and receive a sentence that’s been reduced by 95% (or end up on probation). Walk out the door and commit another crime and get the same deal as last time. It goes on and on.
We can thank our judges for the machete wielding psychos and other repeat offenders that are running around on our streets, free to commit more crimes.
Maybe if we as a society stopped locking up and wasting prison space with marijuana offenders, there’d be more room for miscreants like this dynamic duo to be kept away from society.
I agree with you, however, I do think that dealers who sell to children should be behind bars.
Maine will soon be gone. The way life used to be. Thanks, Republicans and Democrats. You’re traitors.
I agree about both Republicans and Democrats. I am an “Independent” now. Though I don’t vote anymore. No matter which way you vote you are throwing your vote away. It’s all one big living joke at this point. Except nobody is laughing.
How is this a political ordeal? The blame lies with the individuals who committed the action, not a politician.
It’s political because of the climate we are now left with from many years of not holding people accountable for their actions, instead everyone is a victim. You are right in the sense that it is the individuals fault, it was their decision. Unfortunately our penal system has been neutered over the years. Police no longer have the tools to effectively do their job. Too defense attorneys getting people off lightly, and liberal judges not doing their job by making jail time hurt. We have gone from punishing people for doing wrong, to “rehabilitating”. It’s all a joke. Law breakers don’t give a Sh*t any more. There is no respect toward anything or anyone any more. And we as a country have a real drug problem that is out of control.
These two just do not learn. How about keeping them in jail before they kill someone. Then we (the public) do not have to deal with them.
BDN should have put one of those graphic picture warnings on this article.
people like this should be locked up for a very long time but they wont probly already bailed out also
They’ll clean up quick in the clink!
Tired of seeing people do this kind of stuff and comments of “blame this guy, or that place, or society”…. the “blame” lies totally on the individual(s) themselves. No matter what, they made the decision to do whatever it is they did.
Reminds me of the beginning of this funny video when the news report talks about the “Motel Slayings”. With so much drama in Brewer and Bangor these days no wonder they call it The QUEEN city. http://youtu.be/2N9piZjt_k8
“Maybe they were looking for drugs. We’re not sure,” the corporal said.
Really? lol. Good grief.
Pounds and Brown ought to take a look at Michael Caine’s “Harry Brown,” and thank their lucky stars they’re in custody. Fiction to be be sure, but in Second Amendment America, not so wild a possibility.
These people need to GO to jail & STAY in jail- it is lucky no one was killed.
