ORONO, Maine — A University of Maine student who was caught driving drunk on campus last month and was barred by court order from possessing alcohol was arrested late Thursday for drinking, a university spokesman said Friday.

Taylor Gross, 19, of Hermon was charged with operating under the influence on March 30 when he was stopped on Rangeley Road and his blood alcohol was nearly three times the legal limit for those over the age of 21.

“He had bail conditions not to possess or consume alcohol,” Lisnet said.

Campus police were called to Somerset Hall for a report of underage drinking at 11:45 p.m. Thursday and found Gross intoxicated again, according to the UMaine spokesman.

His blood alcohol level was 0.17, more than double the state’s legal limit of 0.08 for those allowed to drink, Lisnet said.

Gross was arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor for violating his bail conditions and also was charged with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, Lisnet said.

He later was released, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. lock him up for the duration of his probation he is too young to go down the wrong path and this may straighten him out.

  2. “He had bail conditions not to possess or consume alcohol,” Lisnet said. If he is 19 he is not supposed to possess or consume alcohol anyway, not just because of his bail conditions.

  3. Just look at this kids Facebook profile.  He apparently is learning nothing at school and nothing from his OUI or bail violations.  His parents must be real proud, I am betting they do not give a crap.

    1.  Everyone of you people on here are hater on this kid for what? 95% of kids that age drink and go to party not that big of deal.

      1. Perhaps about partying on campus….however it is a big deal driving around with a BAC over .2 and an even bigger one should someone get seriously hurt or killed because of those actions.  When I attended college I was told that about half of what is learned occurs outside of the classroom.  I found that to be the case and hopefully it applies to this young man.
