WATERVILLE, Maine — The father of the toddler who went missing from her Waterville home four months ago says the time has come to turn the focus back on his daughter.
Justin DiPietro said at a candlelight vigil attended by about 60 people on Thursday night that too much attention has been placed on him and on Trista Reynolds, the mother of Ayla Reynolds.
Ayla was 20 months old when she was reported missing from her father’s home Dec. 17. The couple does not live together.
DiPietro made his first public comments on his daughter’s disappearance since Jan. 2.
He has said he thinks his daughter was abducted. Law enforcement authorities have discounted a kidnapping.
The Morning Sentinel reports that the Rev. Alan Imes asked everyone to set aside suspicion or anger.
The public has been focused on her. Our hearts, prayers, minds, etc. have all been focused on her…..

Exactly what I thought too , immediately, as soon as I saw the headline!!–If he thinks he’s fooling people, he needs to rethink the matter–This baby didn’t come up missing on her own, and she was in his house, or whoever it belongs to, when she suddenly just wasen’t there anymore!

I think a law should be made that you go to jail if you lose a child until tha child is found. If this was a law I think we would know where she is already.

when u have something to hide it feels like the whole world is looking at you. when you get up in the am and your child is gone you dont ‘think’ she was abducted, you [know] she was. the pressure’s mounting and he feels it. only a matter of time now.

This is truely heart breaking can anyone imagine what kind of life that poor little Angel had to endore under those conditions. My feelings are when we have children we live for our children, protect them and provide the best life for them possible a life without fear or pain. They are a gift from God. There is no way that baby got taken from her bed without anyone hearing something. This is only a matter of common sense. I don’t know much but I do know this she is no longer having to endore the suffering she did where she was. That little Angel must have gone through hell and back on a daily basis and didn’t know any different. There is a special place in hell for those who can harm a child. Whoever harmed her can go on living in their little pretend world but make no mistake in the end it will get you. The public’s first concern is finding Ayla, but our eyes are upon you Justin. You can lie, be uncooperative and make public statements in an attempt to escape the spotlight, but you never will. When Ayla’s body is found her ordeal will be over, but yours will be just beginning.

You know what is bothering me the most in this case? If he “thinks” his daughter was abducted, why the he@% has he not been cooperating with authorities???? If that were my kid, the cops would be seeing me every day and I would be up all night trying to think of some TINY little bit of information I may have forgotten to tell the police. Come clean ,fess up. cooperate with the police. explain why you cancelled the baby’s doctor appointment , and explain how Alya’s blood was found in the basement. He has never acted like a father concerned about his missing daughter (ever)! I would be searching non stop rain or shine and driving the police nuts with questions! I would be doing everything possible to get answers and I don’t think I could ever stop crying! He instead has acted more like a father who already knows the answers!
I can overlook the lack of emotion as I understand everyone grieves in different ways. My mother, a very tender person, goes on auto pilot and doesn’t show a lick of emotion during these kinds of stressful times. However, as you said, not looking for her and not driving the police nuts with questions is baffling to me. The police would hear from me EVERY day. Once the police said he and his family members were no longer being cooperative with police, that ended any thought of innocence for those idiots that i may have had

How about giving the public details on why your daughters blood was found at your house? Nope we hear nothing from you on that. Let’s see…Justin comes out with this statement 2 days after another Uncle of Ayla’s gets arrested for an “altercation” with Justin’s brother over info about Ayla’s case. Hmmm…trouble on the homefront usually means things start unraveling, then folks start talking to the Police. It will not take much longer before we get some answers and hopefully, find little Ayla.
