MILLINOCKET – Gloria A. Spaulding, 75, died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at a Millinocket hospital. She was born Dec. 23, 1936, in Millinocket, the daughter of Joseph and Vivian A. (Graham) Friel.
Gloria grew up in Millinocket and was a graduate of St. Martin of Tours High School, class of 1955. After that, she lived in Old Town for a while, and then moved on to live in New Jersey, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and eventually returned to Maine, first living in Brunswick for 17 years, and then returning to Millinocket for the past three years. While living in Brunswick, Gloria volunteered at and supported the Tedford Shelter, and also volunteered at the soup kitchen in Brunswick. She will be missed and remembered as a great wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all she leaves behind.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 22 years, Robert P. Spaulding Sr. of Millinocket; three sons, John Rand and his wife, Tamara, of Greenland, N.H., David Rand of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Robert P. “Rip” Spaulding Jr. and his wife, Tova Clayman, of Stratford, Conn.; three grandchildren, Nathan, Owen and Sophie; a sister, Joyce Baron of Millinocket; two aunts, Theresa Gould and Rita Graham, both of Old Town; a niece, Carla; two nephews, Chris and Mark; and several cousins. In addition to her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her first husband, Scott Rand; a sister, Georgina Lapsanski; and a brother, Edward Friel.
In accordance with Gloria’s wishes, funeral services will be held privately later in the summer.
