BANGOR – Lila Mae Richmond, 80, died April 22, 2012, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born March 31, 1932, in Portland, daughter of Arah and Louise (Upham) Richmond.
Lila taught school for 35 years, 32 of those years in the Bangor school system. She was a past worthy advisor of Bath Rainbow Girls Assembly, a lifetime member of Maine Teachers Association and National Education Association, and a member and served on the board of directors of Altrusa International, Inc. After retiring in 1991, she traveled the world, enjoying at least one trip each year. In addition, she loved spending several weeks yearly at her timeshare at the Samoset Resort.
She was predeceased by her parents; her dearest friend, Janet W. Mixer; and cousins, Effie and Bob Harlan. Surviving are dear friends, Donna Mixer Guppy and her husband, Andrew, of Palermo and their daughter, Sarah Vidra and her husband, Robert, of Incline Village, Nev.; Deborah J. Mixer Roy and her fiance, James Nadeau, and their children, Meleah and Cameron Roy and Sara Nadeau, all of Bangor; and dear friend, Clara Swan of Hampden.
The family invites folks to share conversation and refreshments 10 a.m.-noon Friday, May 4, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Private interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.
