GREENLAND, N.H. — New Hampshire investigators say one of the guns found inside the Greenland home where Police Chief Michael Maloney was killed was purchased by a woman who also was shot to death that night.

Prosecutors say 29-year-old Cullen Mutrie killed Maloney and shot four other officers during a drug raid April 12. Mutrie then killed his girlfriend — 26-year-old Brittany Tibbetts — before turning the gun on himself.

The attorney general’s office said Wednesday that a .357 caliber revolver found in the home was purchased by Tibbetts on Jan 16 at a Manchester gun show. Police have not yet confirmed the origin of a 9 mm pistol that was also recovered.

  1. Iam saddened for the pain her parents must be enduring. And sad to think of how many other young ladies are out there; presently in harmful relationships like she was.

    1. A gun show purchase, like most gun sales, this one has all the buyer info and must of had a background check. So whats the comment about??

    2.  Gun show purchase is NO different from any other gun purchase through the FFL’s dealership. 4473 and NICS check.

  2. I have no sympathy for this young woman. To imply that she couldn’t make a reasoned judgement on her own because she was somehow under the influence of this pos just doesn’t  fly. Just like all of us with IQ over 70, she had the ability to make choices and she chose to aid, abet and sell illegal drugs. Women can, and do, make the same really bad lifestyle choices as men, and with the same outcomes.

    1.  Yes, they do. But since NONE of us KNOW what was going on between the two of them, no one, including you, can determine her state of mind.

      1. Agreed. But, no excuses for her, or the boyfriend. There may be reasons for the behavior,
but no excuses. And, could we determine the state of mind of Osama, Hitler, serial killers, rapists, etc. and thus be sympathetic towards them?

  3. In one column, add up all the lives saved by private firearm ownership. In the other column, add up all the lives lost because of private gun ownership. Column two wins by a wide margin. Our right to own a gun turns out to be an invitation to wholesale homicide.

    1. I think you have that backwards, you only read about the ones from column B because the other doesn’t result in a death! Stopping a crime without pulling the trigger doesn’t get reported….

      1. And because it does not get reported NO ONE knows how often it happens, it is all antecdotal (sp) evidence.

    2.  If that’s how you feel, you have every right to move to a gun free paradise like DC, Chicago, or LA. If you really want to look at two different columns, research the number of murders in the 20th century committed by individuals versus murders committed by governments. Governments by about 14 to one. It seems to me that government passing gun laws is like a fox guarding a hen house. I have yet to see a single gun law that was proven to have a positive impact on crime. Even if your statistics are correct, I want to meet the person who will look someone in the eye and tell them that they’re not allowed to defend themselves and their families because of statistics. I would never try to force anyone to own a gun, that’s their choice to make, not mine. What gun laws do is take that choice away from them.

  4. Poor life choices.  Self image problems. What causes such behavior?  The prisons, graveyards, rehabs, mental institutions and half-way houses are full of these people.

And all the friends and relatives say they were kind, sweet, honest, truthful…

I think I know the answer to my question.

  5. Wow, wow, wow, “every black gangbanger”, for real!!! Uhgggg, that doesn’t violate the terms of posting. So BDN, what exactly is a racial slur?

You pull my comments all the time because the comment doesn’t fit into your pretty little box and nothing against, COUNTRYBOY8, because his comment is pointed in the right direction but how about some consistancy with your guidlines. You will alienate a large percentage of readership if you try to regulate speech on a blog site. Is that what you strive for, weaker numbers? well come up with a plan and get used to it.

Some of your readers if African American or in a gang might find the comment black gangbanger very offensive.

  6. This story is somewhat misleading, probably deliberately so. If you read other newspaper stories on this subject (Boston news accounts) you will see a couple of things.

    http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/04/26/gun-found-in-greenland-nh-bought-by-shooters-girlfriend/

…….”But they (police) have not said if it was used during the deadly drug raid on April 12″………

    1)  This gun, the .357 revolver, was “found in the house”, along with one or more other guns, after the perps were dead.

    2) The police have NOT SAID if this gun was actually used to shoot one or more of the officers!

    3) The police have NOT SAID whether or not that, at the time of purchase, the woman had the legal right to buy a firearm or not!

    4) The police have NOT SAID exactly who this firearm belongs to, other than the person who bought it!

    5) The police have NOT SAID if this purchase at the gun  show was a “straw purchase” ( a person buying the gun for someone else) or not.

Like the Trayvon Martin case, a lot of supposition is taking place and the results of that are being used (again) to indict the gun-owning community by those of the liberal persuasion, including the BDN!

    1.  All true dude and you have valid points but now that you said “black gangbangers” nothing you say will be taken seriously. next time leave any mention or implication of race or ethnicity out of it and your arguments gain validity. Even if 90% of gang members are black… even if hypothetically 100% of gang members were black because, racial reality is a taboo non-pc topic that makes liberals uncomfortable.

FYI I didn’t say anything racists before all the comment nannies chime in and boo me.

  7. Oh my, Country Boy!  Your knowledge of the gun laws and procedures is impressive.
I wonder though……don’t most WHITE gangbangers in Chicago have guns too?
Do you suppose that the world might be a better place if it were relieved of judgmental, angry folks like yourself who failed to recognize the tragedy in this story.
LIVES WHERE  LOST HERE.  Please try to have a little respect and compassion for  all of the people who loved those lost.
    My prayers are with them.

  8. Oh my, Country Boy!  Your knowledge of the gun laws and procedures is impressive.

Afterall, the point here is that NONE OF US can, or ever, will know who did or didn’t do what, or why they did it!  …much less pass judgement.

the world would be a little better off if people like yourself  were relieved of their racist, judgemental attitudes.

      1. that is circular logic. Without police there would not be three dead people. without cars there would not be three dead people. with out drugs there wouldnt be three dead people

        1. Yes, but no guns there would most likely not be 3 dead people even with cars and drugs.

What you did is create a strawman argument.
