BANGOR, Maine — Several Bangor police officers were called to State Street about 6:30 p.m. Thursday to deal with an oversize metal object being hauled by a Canadian trucking company.

Bangor police Lt. Tom Reagan said Thursday night that the trucking company had to require Department of Transportation permit but “they were too tall.”

He said the truckers were forced to leave Interstate 95 because of the low underpasses and got off at the Hogan Road exit. By the time they reached State Street, near the intersection of Forest Avenue, it became clear a police
escort was in order.

The one-way section of State Street was briefly closed to allow the rig to make its way downtown — against the usual  traffic pattern. The truck then slowly made its way up Hammond Street.

Reagan said it was his understanding the truck was headed for Coldbrook Road in Hermon but wasn’t sure what the object was or what its final destination was.

“Everyone was trying to figure out what it was,” he said, adding, “It was kind of a surprise to us. Nobody knew they were coming through. Some notice would have been sweet.”

  1. I was passed this rig under the Old Town Hudson overpass at highway speed and it just missed it by inches.

        1. hmmm….I could of sworn my Homeland Security friends were too busy with Columbian prostitutes than to keep this country secure…..

  2. They should have to pay for the time that the Bangor PD had to use to escort it through downtown. Along with a fine for note letting the BPD know about it.

  3. It’s a dumpster with pieces of the Mural, it makes perfect sense, hauled by a Canadian trucking company, an unusual shape to deflect people from thinking logically, DOT issued a permit even though the truck was going to run into problems…police escort in Bangor just to keep the Bath Salts folks away from hijacking the truck and taking an unusual route through downtown.

  4. I was shown a picture of the truck i”ll be unloading on monday.  either this is it or a sister project

  5. It’s the Governor’s Ark. For every proposal he has introduced -two Maine residents who support the idea will be getting on board for the eventual destination-Florida
