FALMOUTH – Carolynn P. Cameron, 88, died April 26, 2012, after a long illness. She was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Presque Isle, one of the cherished daughters of Muriel (McGowan) and Edwin E. Parkhurst.

She was educated in Presque Isle schools and graduated from Bates College in 1944. She met her husband of 57 years, John D. “Jack” Cameron, at Bates. After his Naval service in World War II and graduation from Bates in 1946, they settled in Presque Isle to raise their family and manage Parkhurst Farms Inc. Carolynn’s life revolved around her family. She was a lifelong and active member of Presque Isle Congregational Church, U.C.C. She volunteered for many years at The Aroostook Medical Center. She was a member of Presque Isle Country Club, American Association of University Women and Woodfords Women’s Club, and enjoyed playing bridge with friends and working on crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader and loved walking. In later years Carolynn and Jack moved to the Applegate community in Falmouth Foreside in order to be closer to their daughters and their families. For many years they enjoyed the winter months in Ocean Ridge, Fla.

Carolynn was predeceased by her husband, John, who died in 2002; as well as a son-in-law, Christopher Hooson. She is survived by her sister, Marilynn Bonenfant of Presque Isle; her daughters, Candace Alden and her husband, Jim, of Auburn, Julia Cameron and her husband, Bob Benson, of Falmouth Foreside and Rosemary Hooson and her husband, Jerry Clancy, of Rockport, Mass.; her grandchildren, Caroline Alden Hanson of Lebanon, N.H., Daniel Alden and his wife, Magda, of Lowell, Mass., Cameron Hooson Werth and her husband, Nicholas, of Buckeye, Ariz., John Hooson of Boston and James Benson of Washington, D.C.; a stepgrandson, Brad Clancy of Stoneham, Mass.; and her great-grandchildren, John “Jack” Werth and Sarina Alden. Carolynn’s family thanks the staff at Sedgewood Commons, Falmouth, for their care and support; Beacon Hospice; and her special friends and caregivers, Bonnie Bouchard and Betsy Stoddard.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Presque Isle. Interment will be at Johnson Cemetery, Presque Isle.
