BANGOR, Maine — A Husson University student was arrested after a resident assistant and a Bangor police officer showed up in his dorm room and determined that three underage people there had been drinking.
Samuel Carey, 23, is charged with allowing minors to consume liquor and furnishing liquor to minors in connection with the gathering early Saturday morning in Carlisle Hall, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.
Carey, who was taken to Penobscot County Jail after his arrest, since has been released on bail, Edwards said.
Two underage males and one underage female each were summoned for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor by consumption, Edwards said.
The gathering in Carey’s dorm room was reported to city police by campus security about 1 a.m., Edwards said. When Officer Mike Brennan, the department’s liaison to Husson, arrived, he was directed to Carey’s room, where several beer cans were found.
At least one of the minors admitted to drinking, Edwards said, adding that police also conducted simple field sobriety tests indicating the consumption of an intoxicant.

Longrifle, allez en pais.

Please. Why are Bangor Police roaming the halls with Husson University RA’s?
It states right in the story that Bangor Police were called to campus by Campus Security. They weren’t just roaming the halls, looking for people to bust.
exactly. they were doing their job.
OMG stop the presses. Two college students drank beer!!!!! What is our society coming to? This must be the fault of liberals!!!!!!
Don’t blame us liberals! I went to Husson 30 years ago and we had keg systems right in the frat and sorority lounges! .25 a beer! I’d rather have my son or daughter drinking safely in their dorm room or lounge than on the road going to a bar. I cannot believe that they raided this poor kids room for a couple of cans of beer!
By the looks of that mugshot, this guy must be majoring in drugs and alcohol.
Really? You got all that from his mugshot? You’re not a very fair-minded person, are you? How would you like it if you were judged based on your appearance?
You’re not a very fair-minded person, are you?
Welcome to comments on news websites.
If the point of attending college is to further one’s education, why are so many “students” wasting their time drinking, drugging, going to parties, etc? They could save their parents a pile of money by doing the honorable thing: Dropping out of college and getting a job.
Wow a bunch of ADULTS sitting around peacefully having a beer..what criminals.
USSA land of the ruled home of the governed…
The article states ”
The gathering in Carey’s dorm room was reported to city police by campus security about 1 a.m., Edwards said. When Officer Mike Brennan, the department’s liaison to Husson, arrived, he was directed to Carey’s room, where several beer cans were found.” If the employee of the school was working with the police and the police acted on the school official say so then the search should be suppressed and deemed unreasonable search. Unless of course they had a search warrant which we know they they most likely didn’t. The courts have ruled that school can not just “search” a room coupled with a punishement within the criminal court system. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!!!
I’d have to recheck the law, but since Husson is a private university, I don’t believe they fall under the same category and can be subject to room checks. I’m not 100% sure though but that was my understanding last time I heard this.
They sign a rental agreement that states university officials can inspect rooms when they have a reason, noise, smell, etc. It is a signed contract that they have agreed to. IF you don’t like the rules live off campus. Husson pays the Bangor Police to have the liaison for the University. Rules for living in the dorm are to keep it quiet and safe, they did their jobs, congrats, move on.
All of that is contingent on if they opened the door or not. Door opened, evidence visible, case closed.
I am not a lawyer but I don’t think they were just searching a room. After the door opens I believe once they have suspicions of a crime, odor of mj/alcohol, beer cans in sight with minors present, all bets are off. Why is it they can bust parties at private residences when called?
because idiots open the door…thats why. To search it even when they see something they still either need consent or a warrant. No other exceptions…
in the papers you sign to live on campus you are fully aware that your room can be searched at any time. It’s time to stop making excuses for reckless behavior.
BFD!
He needs to “dry out”. Looks like he’s traveled 40 miles of bad road. Drinking does that to someone.
Who are you to pass judgement on this person? Based on a picture?
Not judging him, judging his looks. Got a problem with my stating my opinion? So sorry.

Give me a break!!
Here’s the bottom line…the very wealthy people that donate millions of dollars to schools like Husson are not very likely keep doing that if these institutions are viewed as having no control over the students that are supposed to be there learning. That’s how private schools such as Husson operate. Mr. Samuel Carey is probably not as important as Richard Dyke.
Husson is now a University.
I know that , a university is still a school.
I’m certain this guy was really contributing to the academic mission of Husson University…

Officer Brennan’s mama taught him well!!
Hope this guy’s course was not nursing or law.
