BANGOR, Maine — An Orrington man who turns 26 on Tuesday was arrested Friday afternoon on felony drug trafficking and other charges after Bangor police allegedly found three grams of cocaine in his possession.

Daniel Fox is charged with Class B unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000, as well as violating the conditions of his release from a prior unrelated arrest and driving with a suspended or revoked license, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.

The events that led to the arrest began early Friday afternoon, when Bangor police Sgt. Garry Higgin spotted Fox driving in the city, Edwards said, citing a police report. Higgins was aware that Fox wasn’t supposed to be driving and that he had bail conditions, including being subject to a search by police, Edwards said.

The car Fox was driving was seen shortly afterward on Fourteenth Street but no one was in it, Edwards said. Higgins shortly afterward saw Fox leave and pulled him over on Abbott Street, where Officers Steve Pelletier and Jason Linkletter helped with the search and subsequent arrest.

Fox currently is out on bail, a Penobscot County Jail official said Monday night.

Friday’s arrest was not Fox’s first. He was arrested on St. Patrick’s Day after returning to Hollywood Casino despite having been ordered not to return there for a year.

According to the Bangor Daily News archives, Fox was fined $500 last November for a concealed weapon violation. In May of last year, Fox was pulled over by a Maine State Police trooper who clocked him going 101 mph on Interstate 95 in Bangor.

  1. Wow! 3 grams of coke is trafficking???  When I was in college  many years ago plenty of people would carry around that much just for the weekend.  Our prohibition is really getting too extreme.  How can we even afford this?

    1. I have to agree with you, whe are wasteing to much taxpayer money when these are victimless crimes. Why must we dictate morality ? We are filling our prisons with people who need treatment not jail. Whether people agree or not i believe it would cost less and they would not be going to the school for criminals because thats what prison is. Just look at the rate of recitivism. But according to our guvnah we don’t need all those corrupt state employees anyway so let,s get rid of the reason we need so many at msp and the rest of those facilities and decrimanalize some of these antiquated laws. Less tax’s for the mass’s.

      1. Mike, this a victimless crime you say. You don’t want to prosecute him, but help him with his problem. The taxpayers are the “victims.” We’re footing the bill for these idiots. I respect your opinion on this matter, but could not disagree more.

        1. Precisely.  Want the freedom to do drugs, don’t expect me to pay a nickel to get you off it.

      2. Have you spoken to this man’s family?  Has he put them through h. e. double hockey sticks for a portion of his life?

Is he gainfully employed?  Why was he driving when he wasn’t supposed to be? Was he stoned when he was driving?  Did he put my life or the lives of my children in jeopardy because he was driving?

On this very front page there is a story about babies withdrawing from drugs after being born.

I’m sorry but there is no such thing as a ‘victimless’ crime when it comes to drugs.   None.

I agree with you that people need treatment (if, that is, they are ready to be serious about that treatment because recidivism doesn’t just come to those locked up in jail) but it needs to be thought about on a deeper level than the ‘taxpayer’ level.

      3. You have too want to be treated and be free of the addiction before it will ever work. Look what bathsalt has done in just the city of  bangor. Look at the problem nationwide its a mess. Someone has to take control of it. Thanks Sgt. Garry Higgins for catching him driving. Get another one off the street.

  2. Garry Higgins does this stuff all the time. He is probably the most pro-active cop on the force. He’s a crime fighter as Denzel Washington would say (Training Day). Garry Higgins is a wolf, let me hear your wolf cry. CRIME FIGHTER!

Keep up the good work Sgt. Higgins…you CRIME FIGHTER.

  3. Regardless of what you all say – I grew up with Dan, he was a great kid in high school and the years after. Having a problem with drugs and getting mixed up with the wrong people does not make you a bad person. It just causes you to make bad decisions. I hope he WANTS to get the help he needs.

  4. Why is it that no matter what one reads in the news there are always comments on how the taxpayer is the true victim? Taxes have been around for hundreds of yrs.  People and their idiotic choices have been here longer. Taxes, like death are certain youre going to have to pay them eventually.  And sadly the ammount of control one has on how they are spent is minimal when looking at the big picture. But thats why we chose who runs this country and make these choices for us, good or bad. Hopefully these people who feel they are the true victim never have to rely on such things as tax dollars to get by. And should that day come, maybe you’ll be singing a different tune. Don’t want to pay taxes? There are a few countries that dont have taxes. I hear North Korea is warming up this time of year.
