LINCOLN – Calvin William Ireland Sr., 79, husband of more than 50 years of Lucille (Farrar) Ireland, died unexpectedly April 30, 2012, at his home. He was born March 31, 1933, in South Lincoln, the son of Lester and Evelyn (Gray) Ireland.

Calvin always had a grin on his face. Cal had worked for Stowell-McGregor, Alfred Davis and SAD No. 67. He started Ireland’s Rubbish in 1970 and Ireland’s Septic Service in 1974. In 1983, he opened Cal & Lucy’s Discount Store, South Lincoln. He spent winters in Largo, Fla., where he made many friends. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He also loved hunting and fishing, and spending time at the hunting camp, “Ireland’s Forest.” He was a Mason and a Shriner.

He is survived by seven children, David and Rose, Debbie and Mike Knights, Danny and Angel, Sherri, Calvin Jr. and Tina, Paula, and Roger and Michelle; grandchildren, David, Randy, Jerry, Philip, Mark, Rebecca, Jackie, Jaime, Mikey, Danielle, Billy, Farrar, Kobe, Dustin and Devin; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra Raymond; a brother, Michael Whelpey; and a special friend, Diane Clifford and her family. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Cassius and Lester; a sister, Donna Jandreau; and his stepmother, Amy Ireland.

Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Darrell Joiner officiating.
