LAMOINE – Merrill S. Boynton, 96, died May 1, 2012, at his residence. He was born May 20, 1915, in Lamoine, son of Chester M. and Mary Elizabeth (West) Boynton.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer in Africa and Europe from 1941 to 1945. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. During his working career, Merrill was a building contractor in the Hancock County area. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
He is survived by a nephew, Robert Bearse; and nieces, Donna Kabatek and Jeannette Caggiano. He was predeceased by his wife, Amanda Burns Boynton; and siblings, Francis Boynton, Barbara Bearse and Theodore Boynton. A special thank you to Cathy Smeal and Merrill’s caregivers.
