BREWER, Maine — A Brewer man and a juvenile earned summonses for possession of marijuana in separate incidents Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, according to police.
Just after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, police saw a suspicious man behind the Hannaford supermarket, according to Sgt. Arden Jones.
When police searched the 15-year-old subject they found a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to Jones.
The juvenile was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and released to the custody of his parents, the sergeant said.
Shortly after midnight Wednesday, police pulled a vehicle over on North Main Street and Officer Liz Kelley smelled marijuana in the vehicle, Jones said.
The driver, Tyler Hoxie, 19, of Brewer admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the evening, and Kelley found a baggie with a small amount of pot in it when she searched the car, according to Jones.
Police say Hoxie also turned over two marijuana pipes. He was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia but was not arrested.

Our cannabis prohibition laws are draconian, un-American and extremely expensive to the taxpayers. This story is a perfect example of two people who were harming no one and are now on the wrong side of the law. It is time to legalize!
I love when I see the post about harming no one. If the driver of the car ran into someone while under the influence of this “Harmless Drug” I wonder if you would be making the same statement
Responsible people never operate a motor vehicle under impairment of any kind. Smoke– STAY HOME. Or walk… It’s a nice day, ride your bike.
If legalized, it should treated as a legal intoxicant, much like alcohol. All I think it would take is a field sobriety test for recent (4-6 hours prior) marijuana use.
you can get in trouble for riding a lawn mower intoxicated so I dont know if you should use a bike impaired :)
You can indeed get arrested for riding a bike while impaired. You can also get arrested for walking while impaired. Fun facts.

That field sobriety test, is what’s stopping marijuana from being legalized. If their was one to pinpoint last use, I think marijuana would be sold like alcohol. There’s no way to pinpoint when a user has last smoked, if in a car accident, etc. Anyone who wants it legalized, should be focusing on the test officers could use to pinpoint last use in case it’s needed.
Currently, I think that only a blood test can determine the amount of THC in the system. Highest after use, THC dissipates slowly, usually 30 days or so depending on a few factors (weight, body fat). I agree that this test, if it existed, would be the last hurdle in the complicated process of the legalization of marijuana.

well yeah. but I was referring to the ability to test the amount of thc in the system, not just the presence of it.
that is possible for i had a pee test and failed and they said there was a small amt? so that tells me it can be done and tell how much thc….
It should be treated and regulated more like alcohol, driving under the influence would still be wrong…

it’s more than just them, big Pharma doesn’t want it legal because it actually does have many medical benefits and the cotton and paper industries don’t want it legal either, it makes much more durable paper and fabric than either of those. Until we stop the lobbyist’s from being allowed to pay off the congress and senate I don’t see prohibition ending any time soon…

A ‘suspicious man’ behind Hannafords? A 15 year old boy is searched by a cop because he was behind Hannafords? On what grounds does a cop have a right to search a young lad? It is illegal be be behind Hannafords? I think that officer should have minded his own business and kept his hands to himself.
Cannabis is not for everyone. Not everyone should smoke pot. Alcohol is not for everyone either. Big difference between the two is that Alcohol kills and Cannabis doesn’t. I mean you don’t see articles in the news where someone gets killed for being high on cannabis. Or over dosed on Cannabis. It doesn’t happen thats why. How many people does it affect negatively when someone sparks up a joint? Or passes a bowl? No one that’s who. Down with cotton and down with prohibition. Lets spend our tax dollars on the hard drugs…and P.S. Meth clinics should be shut down. Put these people in a padded room and let them suffer though it. None of this get a fix to not get a fix. What a money making racket that is!!!
