PORTLAND – Lorraine M. Rand, 66, died May 3, 2012, in South Portland, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 27, 1946, in Bangor, daughter of Parker B., Sr. and Margaret L. (Logan) Rand.

Lorraine attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and was a 1964 graduate of John Bapst High School. She graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1967 and worked as a registered nurse for 43 years. After a brief career as floor nurse at Eastern Maine General Hospital, Lorraine took opportunity to advance her career in nursing working in intravenous therapy and as an oncology nurse in Massachusetts. Her career included working at Lynn Hospital, Union Hospital and more recently as nurse navigator at North Shore Cancer Center, Peabody, Mass. Lorraine retired in 2009 and returned to Maine to reside in Portland.

Surviving are three sisters, Cynthia Rand of Portland, Paula Quinn of Belfast and Regina Rand of Old Orchard Beach; sister-in-law, Laura Rand of Bangor; nieces and nephews, Rebecca Costigan and husband, Anthony, of Holden, Parker B. John Rand, III and wife, Melodie (Baxter) Rand, of Manchester, Katie McAvoy of Portland, and Mallory McAvoy of New Haven, Conn.; several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and brother, Parker B. Rand Jr., in 2011.

Family and friends may visit 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a service honoring her life will begin 5 p.m. as the visitation concludes. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
