BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor woman was arrested early Tuesday morning after refusing to quiet down in Pickering Square.

Tina Peterson, 49, was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge after Bangor police were called to the public square to look into a report of a screaming woman, Bangor police Sgt. Bob Bishop said Tuesday evening, citing an arrest report.

There they found Peterson and issued a disorderly conduct warning, Bishop said. He said that despite the warning, Peterson continued her rowdy behavior, which involved what police called “coarse” language and gestures, some of it aimed at police officers.

Peterson was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where she remained Tuesday night. She is scheduled to make a court appearance Wednesday at the Penobscot Judicial Center, a jail official said.

        1. There probably were a few who slept in doorways, but Pickering was a pretty busy place back then…many more businesses then that’ve turned into empty storefronts now.  But during the daytime there’s more scofflaws, druggies, and drunks hanging around in the area now.  That was fairly rare in the 60s.  In all honesty I have to say that Pickering Square is nowhere near as bad as lower Lisbon St. in Lewiston in the daytime.

        2. Probably the same ones. The stairway on the Chamberlin bridge use to be home to a lot of canned heaters.

  1. I am not really too surprised by this at all.  You have the Tavern, the Waverly, two other bars at the end of the street and the Bat Bus, and a place for everyone that gets done drinking to go have a sit and chat and smoke with their buddies.  This at least keeps them away from the City Council’s prized waterfront area, which seems to be about the only place the counsilors ever seem to be spending any money.
