ROCKLAND, Maine — A man who tried to commit suicide was saved during a dramatic rescue this weekend.
Rockland police received a call shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday of a man attempting to kill himself.
Sgt. Anthony Camporiale arrived and found the man was hanging by his neck from an extension cord that he had tied around a power line connected to the second floor of a two-story duplex on State Street in Rockland. The police sergeant tried to reach the man but the victim’s feet were out of reach, according to Deputy Rockland Police Chief Wally Tower.
But Camporiale was able to throw a knife up to another man on the second floor who used it to cut the extension cord.
The city’s emergency medical services department took the man who attempted suicide to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. The man, whose name the Bangor Daily News has chosen not to publish, survived, Tower said.

I hope this man can get the help he so obviously needs.
He probably has no health insurance. Read the other story today about how many in Maine defer healthcare because of the cost.
A lot more likely in that part of Rockland that he’s on MeCare.

Congrats BDN…you finally acted with some class
You said it! I was thinking the same thing… Thank-you for not adding further embarrassment to an already hurting soul.
Good job, Rockland PD!
I am glad to hear of the actions of police who saved a life and that the man survived. Like others, I am happy the BDN chose not to publish the man’s name. However, I am gravely disappointed that the BDN engaged in yellow journalism by writing anything about a suicide or attempted one.
You’re right. They should check with the party chairman or the minister of propaganda before they publish anything like this.
It is an ethical point in journalism and up to the recent year or so, reputable papers would not touch a suicide. It is either a change in ethics or possibly the reputation of the writer or the editors/publishers.
You’re making all that up. You need to find your way back home.
You are so right Paul
BRAVO BDN…you got it right…THIS TIME
It’s really a sad thing when the BDN needs to be congratulated for printing something right. I’m sure they will follow up with the mans name though as soon as they get the chance. It is not necessary but anything for a headline.
To the man that tried to end his life. I am sorry that you are hurting so badly that you find this way out so appealing. May you get the help you need and find some comfort in life again.
