MILLINOCKET, Maine — As many as six gunshots were fired into a car parked at a Heritage Street house early Monday that investigators say were targeting an out-of-town visitor, Police Chief Donald Bolduc said Wednesday.
The police investigation continues and might be further along if not for the reticence of the car’s owner, who is not a town resident, Bolduc said.
“We have information and we are following our leads,” Bolduc said. “The victim who owns the car is very reluctant to cooperate, but we are getting some information.”
The incident began for police when a passerby on Massachusetts Avenue reported hearing six gunshots and seeing a white car fleeing from Heritage Street to Massachusetts Avenue and then onto Central Avenue toward East Millinocket at about 4:40 a.m., Bolduc said.
Police investigated the area but found no evidence of wrongdoing. Then, at about 11:35 a.m., they received a call from a Heritage Street resident reporting a broken window, Bolduc said.
“That’s when we learned that it [the window’s breaking] was the results of a gunshot,” Bolduc said.
Police determined then that the house with the broken window was in the line of fire or ricochet with the car, which was parked at another house on Heritage Street, and that the car was the intended target, Bolduc said.
The car had a tire flattened by one of the bullets that struck it. No one was in the car at the time of the shooting, Bolduc said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Jon Glidden or Officer Martin Legassey, who are investigating, Bolduc said.
The shooting appears to be an isolated incident. Police get reports of shots fired in areas in or near town two or three times a month, but most of the incidents involved residents doing target practice just outside of town or sounds mistaken for gunshots such as car backfires or fireworks, Bolduc said.
Heritage Street is a fairly heavily populated residential area that connects Minuteman Drive and Rhode Island and Massachusetts avenues on the eastern side of town.
Bolduc declined to say whether they had recovered bullets or other evidence from the scene.
Looks like there are quite a few people with guns that should not have them.
Based on this story it seems that there is one person who should not have a gun. Then again, based on this story that same person should not have a vehicle either.

I would rather be a rat then have one of the idiots bullets hit someone wether it is my loved one or yours, just saying.
i almost agree with you but theres a difference between what you know and what you can prove, and the person who did it is already a suspect anyways so ratting in this case doesnt really do much of anything.

take it like a man and handle your stuff without ratting- thats what got them to this point already is because the person who had the car is originally from the area and ratted on his friends and moved away. its karma, he will prob rat again and this will continue for years to come.
more like the little boy who shot up this car thinks hes some kind of gangster and keeps escalating his life of crime into worse things. wont surprise me when he ends up dead in someone elses yard/house or in a long term prison sentence getting treated like his father warned him about. and being a felon he better watch out with that 9mm B.
the karma would be that the person who got ratted on did something really stupid and got in trouble for it like he should. unfortunately he never learned his lesson and will go on doing stupid things. and if your going to be playing with guns unresponsively and shooting up peoples property you DESERVE to get ratted on. its just a shame that the victim in this case probably thinks it wont help anyways.
