Sanford man wanted on multiple warrants turns himself in

SANFORD, Maine — A Sanford man who had outstanding warrants for robbery and domestic violence stalking turned himself in to police Wednesday.

Raymond Johnson, 27, a man whom police had considered dangerous, turned himself in at the Sanford police station at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, Sanford Deputy Chief Tim Strout said Thursday.

Strout said it’s unclear how long Johnson’s warrants have been active, but police are glad to have him off the streets.

“It worked out very well on our end of it,” said Strout.

Johnson is facing a Class A robbery charge, punishable by up to 20 years behind bars, and a Class C charge of domestic violence stalking, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Johnson was taken to the York County Jail, where he remains Thursday.
