TROY – Marian Othilla (Rumgay) Paton passed away Monday, May 7, 2012, at Lakewood Continuing Care Center, Waterville. Marian was born June 11, 1921, in North Adams, Mass., the daughter of Andrew Charles Rumgay and Alice Mabel (Beaman) Rumgay.

She graduated from Drury High School, North Adams, Mass., and received an associate degree in floriculture from the University of Massachusetts at Stockbridge in 1941. On Aug. 30, 1942, Marian married Philip Harris Paton. In 1955 they moved to a dairy farm in Troy. In addition to the farm, Philip and Marian had a real estate business. Marian was very active in community organizations, including local school groups, Troy Ladies’ Auxiliary, Troy and Waldo County extension groups and the 4-H Club. In addition to many years as Sunday school director, she served as secretary and treasurer for Troy Union Church.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, John and Andrew Rumgay Jr.; and her husband, Philip, who passed away in 2005. Marian is survived by her three sons, John and wife, Priscilla, of Presque Isle, Stanley and wife, Judith, of Waldoboro and Peter of Troy; her daughters, Priscilla and her husband, David Anderson, of Northfield, Minn., and Mary Ella and her husband, Richard Jones, of Poland Spring; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family thanks Dr. Kriegel and the staff at The Woodlands, Waterville.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at Troy Union Church. A reception for family and friends will be after the service.
