CORINTH, Maine — A two-car crash at an intersection in Corinth on Friday afternoon sent three local people to the hospital, one of whom was listed in critical condition Friday evening.

The names of the people involved — all of whom reside in the Corinth-Hudson area — were being withheld, Trooper Tucker Bonnevie of the Maine State Police said Friday night.

Bonnevie said the accident happened about 3:30 p.m. when a Nissan Altima in which three people were traveling on the section of Route 15 known as Tate Road drove through a stop sign and struck a Honda Accord in which one person was traveling on Route 43, also known locally as Hudson Road.

Both of the passengers in the Nissan were injured as was the driver of the Honda, Bonnevie said. The driver of the Nissan was not injured.

According to Bonnevie, both of the Nissan passengers had to be extricated from the wreckage. The passenger who was sitting in the back seat, behind the driver, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by LifeFlight and was listed in critical condition Friday night. Despite the seriousness of the injuries, the trooper was told they were not considered life-threatening.

The other two injured people were taken to EMMC by ambulance. No further information about their medical conditions was available.

Bonnevie said it was not clear why the driver of the Nissan did not stop at the stop sign.

The intersection, which contains two sharp turns, is one of the more dangerous ones in the area, he noted. He said it was not cross-shaped but rather was more like a “thin X.”

No charges are pending in connection with the crash, Bonnevie said.

  1.  traveling on the section of Route 15 known as Tate Road drove through a stop sign and struck a Honda Accord in which one person was traveling on Route 43, also known locally as Hudson Road.” this isn’t a possible place for the accident. Route 15 and the Tate road are two separate places. both with different intersections on Route 43. I know I live here.

      1. Tate Road, Rt. 15 and Rt. 43 form a triangle.  From the picture, it looks like the intersection of  Rt. 43 and Tate Road is the place where this accident happened.  Rt. 15 is a much bigger road, with paint down the middle.  I don’t see this in the picture.

    1. I’ve always considered Rt 221 to be the “Hudson Rd” (as most probably do) but if you look at Google maps, Rt#43 from the Village of Corinth  over to the Tate Rd neighborhood is also labeled as Hudson Rd and if you are coming from the other end at Rt 221 it is labeled as the Corinth Rd. I am not quite sure how Rt 15 played into this report??? Seems to be a simple mistake.

  2. I am as lost as you two and I travel down that area to get to Corinth from Bradford. I was there shortly after the accident. It was quite a mess. There was a silver car in the ditch with it tires blown off. I am surprised there isn’t going to be charges filed. From the damage I could see, you can easily tell speed was a factor and not to mention it stated in the story that Nissan drove through a stop sign.

  3. Surprise, no charges filed, run a stop sign these days are apparently carry no charges. No wonder I see people do this all the time. Now that I see a picture I can see that my confusion is much more clear knowing route 15 does not run through here. Another “hey print this real quick” article. They even link a map as to where this accident took place and do you see route 15 at the marker on the map? No, so lack of proof reading and editing by the BDN again
I know the intersection is funny, but I don’t think it is that difficult, the last time I went down there, signs are posted to warn you of an upcoming stop. Apparently these days more are going to need to be added.
