WATERVILLE, Maine — A Winslow man was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries Sunday after he was struck by a vehicle driven by a man in a supermarket parking lot, according to police.
Alan Sutherland, 43, was pushing a shopping cart full of groceries through the Hannaford parking lot on Kennedy Memorial Drive at about 3 p.m. when a car driven by Hubert Fougere, 71, also of Winslow, struck him in the leg, Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.
Fougere’s vehicle partially ran over Sutherland’s right foot, but his injuries aren’t considered to be serious, Rumsey said.
Fougere was about to turn into an open spot in his Toyota Prius when he struck Sutherland, who was walking on his left.
Sutherland was taken to Inland Hospital in Waterville for treatment. A hospital spokeswoman had no update on his condition Monday.
No charges are expected in relation to the incident, according to Rumsey.

71 is not elderly, by the way.
No, it isn’t. But that could be called a ‘senior moment’ move.
I was sitting in a lot waiting for the lady when I decided to go in and find her (sound familiar guys?). The window was down and I started to jump out when a Prius came bombing into the spot next to me under electric power and almost took my door off. They need some noise to let you know they are there. Manufacturers are now looking into it…….
Loud pipes save lives!!!
Don’t go all biker on me! :)
That makes complete sense. People have the opportunity to get out of the way of a vehicle if they hear it coming. Even if the people behind the wheel don’t see them.
And a blind spot on the LEFT? Oh well , Maine does have an aging population. :-)
At least nobody was killed THIS time.
I guess I don’t understand your response to me. I was agreeing with you to begin with, when you were saying that Prius’ need to make noise to let you know they are there.
Sorry about that. I was just adding that a blind spot on his LF is not a good excuse unless he has a peripheral vision problem.
My car finely died and i purchased a 2004 dodge truck. I went to Save A Lot and got hit in the rear bumper while i was in the store.. A few days later i went back to the same store and a guy was seen ramming a shopping cart into my bed side screaming i hate gas guzzlers. This was told to me by a person who claimed to witness the incident.. She allegedly witnessed this and waited for me to come out but it was too late the old man she said had already left. A few days later i went back to the same store and as i was walking out a woman was walking around her car and looking at my truck. Yup she hit my truck there was 4 feet between her car and my truck she backed up and hit me behind the rear wheel with her front bumper pulling my bumper away and causing 350.00 worth of damage.. After the police left and information was exchanged she decided to leave and she was backing up not looking behind her, she backed up into the vehicle behind her tapped it and then went forward and out of the parking lot. People don’t watch where they are going and the older people are the worse ones.. The woman that hit me was 69.. I boycotted that parking lot and if i have to go back I’m taking the wife’s car from now on..
