WATERVILLE, Maine — A local man learned the hard way early Monday that it’s never a good idea to burglarize a police officer’s personal vehicle, according to police.
Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said Tuesday an officer went into the parking lot where police park their personal vehicles and found that his vehicle had been broken into and some flowers were taken. Rumsey said a second officer later discovered his vehicle also had been broken into.
A trail of flower petals led police to Donald Fenick, 61, who was hiding under a pedestrian bridge that connects Waterville and Winslow, according to Rumsey.
Fenick also had some tools that police believe he stole from a nearby construction site, Rumsey said.
Fenick was arrested just after 3 a.m. Monday and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, a Class D misdemeanor, and theft, a Class E misdemeanor.
Rumsey said Fenick made his court appearance on the charges later Monday, pleading guilty. He earned a 60-day jail sentence.
“Police were notified by the court Monday afternoon that Fenick had pled guilty,” Rumsey said.
Maybe he was trying to get flowers from his mother on mother’s day. HAHA. But in all seriousness.. stealing isn’t right. But kinda funny that it was from a cops personal vehicle.
