BREWER, Maine — Officer Liz Kelley was doing a routine check of Indian Trail Park on Tuesday evening when she found a car with three teens inside that smelled strongly of burned marijuana, Brewer police Sgt. Arden Jones said Wednesday.

The group “admitted to using marijuana” and a pot pipe was located, the sergeant said.

Maggie Hopkins, 18, of Orland was charged with unlawful furnishing of marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Jones said.

“The person who had [the pot] was charged with furnishing it to the other people in the vehicle,” the sergeant said.

The two other people in the vehicle were not charged. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. This reefer madness is out of control.  People can go to jail for years for sharing a joint with their friends?  This crazy war on drugs is going to ruin this country.  I hope there is a judge with common sense that will throw this crap out and reprimand this bored head strong officer enjoying a power trip.  This is wasting our scarce tax dollars and we can’t afford it!!!

  2. She’s nice enough to share and is the only one to get a ticket.  The other kids admitted to smoking pot too.  With all the bath salts and oxycodone issues this area is dealing with, I would think a warning and told to go home would have been a fair option. Give them a chance, they could have been out breaking into someones house for addictive drug money.

  3. Thank you Brewer PD for protecting our streets. Those evil pot smoking teenagers need to be locked up and have the key thrown away, else they might continue to invade our parks and fast food places. Dangerous druggies, the lot of em. Last thing we need is kids enjoying themselves, having a laugh, as marijuana use is no laughing matter. Marijuana is a very serious and dangerous drug that leads to Heroin and Bath Salt use. So a very big thank you to all the hard working law enforcement officers in the greater Bangor area. Keep up the hard work!
