BURLINGTON, Maine — A 29-year-old man injured when his motorcycle veered suddenly off Long Ridge Road remained in serious condition Wednesday at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, a hospital spokesman said.
Luke Shorey of Burlington suffered head injuries and cuts, scrapes and bruises to his legs when he was heading toward Lincoln at about 10:30 a.m. Monday and turned off the road to avoid a car that had just pulled out of a driveway, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Patty McLaughlin has said.
Shorey apparently lost control of the motorcycle after coming out of a sharp curve just before 256 Long Ridge Road and seeing the car, which also was headed toward Lincoln. Shorey was not wearing a helmet, McLaughlin said.
A resident of 256 Long Ridge Road, Tracey Sprague, said she administered first aid to Shorey, wiping blood from his mouth and nose as he lay facedown with his body partly in a ditch that ran alongside the road and his motorcycle partly atop him.
Shorey’s color immediately began to return to normal and he began to breathe more normally and groan with his airways cleared, Sprague said.
A LifeFlight helicopter took Shorey to EMMC after a Penobscot Valley Hospital ambulance took him to the Lincoln hospital for treatment, McLaughlin said.
The crash investigation continues. McLaughlin was off duty Wednesday and could not be reached for comment.

True enough, but my understanding is that the car the man hit was already out of the driveway and on its way.

As you are coming up the hill and around this curve you cannot see my neighbors driveway or mine until you are right there. The car had pulled out of my driveway and was headed towards Lincoln before the bike rounded the corner. Its no ones fault, its just the way the road is. I am sending thoughts and prayers for this young man to have a complete recovery.
