Lincoln woman charged with criminal trespass

LINCOLN, Maine — A Lincoln woman was charged with criminal trespass when police found her in the closet of an Enfield Road home after they responded to a reported burglary, officials said Thursday.

Kaci Munson, 26, was also charged Wednesday on a warrant for failure to pay fines, Police Chief William Lawrence said.

She was released from the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor after spending the night at the Penobscot County Jail, a jail official said. Her court date was not immediately available.

A resident at 552 Enfield Road called 911 at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to report a woman burglarizing his home. Dispatchers at Penobscot Regional Communications Center relayed the message and Officer Brandi Alton, who was patrolling downtown, got to the house first about five minutes later, Lawrence said.

When she arrived, Alton met the resident, who told her that a woman was inside. Seeing that the resident was safe and no one was in danger, Alton waited for backup to arrive. Detective David Cram, Lawrence and Maine State Police Trooper Thomas Fiske arrived a few minutes later, Lawrence said.

Alton followed procedure perfectly, Lawrence said.

“She wanted to be safe, so she waited,” Lawrence said Thursday. “You are always concerned that they [suspects] could be armed.”

The officers began searching the home and Fiske found the woman, identified as Munson, in an upstairs bedroom, said Lawrence, who believed there might have been a previous relationship between Munson and the resident.

Munson was held on $565 bail at the jail, Lawrence said.
