WATERVILLE, Maine — Nineteen Colby College students have been summoned to court to face alcohol-related charges in connection with a midweek off-campus party.

Police say they responded to a complaint from a neighbor at about 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers spoke with the two Colby students from Massachusetts who rent the house. Constance Jangro of Reading, Mass., and Lauren Zion of Beverly, Mass., were summoned and charged with furnishing a place for minors to drink alcohol.

The Morning Sentinel reports that 17 other students at the house were summoned on charges of possession of liquor by a minor.

All are scheduled to appear in Waterville District Court on Aug. 7.

  1. Strange country.  Send children to war at 18 and treat them like children until they are 21.  Very odd.

        1. The drinking age was 18 when we had the draft and even after the age limit was raised to 21 those that where enlisted could drink on base regardless of their age. That has changed and now you must be 21 regardless.

  2. Another drinking scandal at the college that wishes that it was Bowdoin? I’m expecting some continuances because August 7th won’t work for the out-of-state kids (the 90% who aren’t token Mainers.)

  3. Its sad that we live in a country where at 18 your legally responsible for yourself, you can vote, and u can fight for our country, but you can’t drink a beer? And I’m sure that none of the officers handing out summons ever drank in college until they were of legal age right

  4. Ridiculous.  Guessing the complaining neighbor will have a toilet paper tree party going on sometime shortly.  P.S. Colby girls:  Next time, get the ones you (friends) want in and lock the door.

  5. Lock em all up!  Give them all 3-5 for their heinous crimes against society.  After all, college kids drinking?  I’ve never heard of such a thing!

  6. I went to college in the 70s when the drinking age was 18. We drank at parties held on campus, It was safer-nobody had to drive to an off campus house, apartment or bar.
