BANGOR, Maine — Police are on the lookout for a man who reportedly robbed the Rite Aid pharmacy at the intersection of Union and Fourteenth streets Monday afternoon.

The call reporting the robbery came in around 4:30 p.m., Bangor police Lt. Tom Reagan confirmed shortly after the incident occurred.

The robber was described as a “very grubby” older man wearing bluejeans and two hooded sweatshirts. One of the sweatshirts was worn backwards and had eye slits cut into it, Reagan said.

The robber last was seen running between houses in the Manners Avenue area, a few streets over from the Rite Aid, Reagan said. The robber remained on the loose as of 8:30 p.m. No other details — including what the robber was after and whether he got it — were available at that time.

The Maine State Police, the Maine Warden Service and tracking dogs were brought to the area in an effort to locate the man.

Shortly after the robbery, signs reading “Temporarily closed. Sorry for any inconvenience” were placed on both of the pharmacy’s entrance doors.

A customer waiting outside the store to pick up a prescription was asked to return in an hour to an hour and a half.

BDN writers Nok-Noi Ricker and Nick McCrea contributed to this report.

  1. Not another Rite Aid.  Wonder why they hit rite aid the most.  Getting curiousity

    1.  Probably because everywhere you look , there is a Rite-Aid!–There are actually two on Union St.  Union & 14th, and Union & 3rd.—-Not many other pharmacies to pick from!

    2. It could do with that there is hardly any people in them, at least the once a year trip I make in one, hardly a soul around in that store. Less people, less witnesses, easy target.

      1. The one at 3rd & Union is actually quite busy….  though a lot of the customers look like they are more liable to rob the place than buy anything.

  2. I can imagine that the phamacology students are rethinking their career path. Too too many of these robberies going on. Crazy.

    1. Not saying its the whole reason, but i can only imagine its part of it. The reporting of these stories is skyrocketing, Once a few came out, it was happening everywhere. Reports of people robbing them and getting away with it, if people keep seeing these stories im sure they think hell if they can get away with it, i can to.

      1. If we could curb the drug problem the robbery’s would hopefully decline .
I knew of a man in a Southern State who is serving life for this crime . Maybe Maine should up the stakes.

        1. Maybe Maine should up the stakes. Think of the jobs it would create if all drug stores and banks had armed guards at the door. Hard to believe that the guards salary wouldn’t be cheaper than the insurance rates from being robbed. Maybe then grandma could make it to her car without getting rolled for her prescription. Oops, would this infringe on the robber’s rights Shenna Bellows?
Isn’t anyone curious to know…do they really have a gun or do they just have their hand in their pocket? Once one of these addicts states that “they have a weapon” during a robbery, you can legally shoot them.

  3. WHY??? Why is the Maine Warden Service involved in this? This is not what I pay my hunting and fishing license fees for! And then they complain about not having enough money or resources to protect our fish and wildlife. THIS IS NOT ALASKA. NOT ALASKA STATE TROOPERS. Too bad. It is a good outfit with good officers. They just need to be mission focused. If Bangor PD, the state police and Penobsscot SO cannot handle this, something is wrong.

    1.  Because the wardens have all the same power that a stater trooper has…….and they have better dogs…….. for tracking anyway

    2. 1st because the Wardens were probably the closest law enforcement with a tracking dog.
2nd because Wardens can search you or your vehicle without a warrant. Haven’t you ever wondered why Troopers call wardens when they have a car pulled over on the interstate that they want to search with no probable cause? Because the Wardens can legally search it.

  4. They dont call it the “Ghetto Rite Aid” for nothing…look where its located!

Go back a few years and see what kind of crime has taken place within a 1/2 mile of that place.  Didnt the Ponchi Moontree incident take place there too?
