DEXTER – Velma (Withee) Melvin, 87, died May 25, 2012, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital.
She was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Dexter, a daughter of Wallace and Emma (Eastman) Withee Sr.
She was a devoted member of Apostolic Faith Tabernacle, Dexter, for more than 40 years. Velma retired after 30 years from Dexter Shoe Co.
She is survived by three sons, Earl Woodbury Jr. and wife, Roberta, of Burnham, Christopher and wife, Kathy Ladd, of England and Michael and wife, Deborah Woodbury, of Dexter; three daughters, Betty Paradis of Corinna, Pamela Thompson of Dexter and Victoria and husband, Glen Manning, of Etna; one brother, Wallace Withee Jr. of Bangor;
19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside committal services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, with Pastor Robert DeLeon officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Dexter. Those who wish may sign an online guest register at
