CHARLESTON – John Harold Sovis, 58, passed away May 29, 2012, in the arms of his loving wife, Priscilla, at his home, after a tough battle with cancer. John was born Dec. 11, 1953, in Pasadena, Calif., the oldest of four children of John M. Sovis and Jeannine Sweezy.
In 1974 John joined the U.S. Army, where he learned air-traffic control. After leaving the military John worked as a controller with the Federal Aviation Administration at airports around the country, including Bangor International Airport, where he retired after a 10-year tenure. John was a second-degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and taught the art for many years. He also loved boating and dreamed of sailing the Caribbean. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend, who will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
John is survived by his wife, Priscilla; son, John Kelly; daughter, Amanda Smith and husband, Ryan; stepdaughter, Ashland Schmidt and husband, Lantze; four grandchildren, Ceili, Chloe, Aidynn and Kaelina; mother, Jeannine Sweezy; sister, Sharon Nelson; brother, William Sovis and wife, Kim; sister, Cindy Michaels; three aunts, six nephews, one niece; mother of his children, Georgia Sovis; several in-laws and countless friends.
