SWANS ISLAND – James “Sammy” Ranquist, 71, died June 4, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 19, 1940, a son of Charles and Nellie (Kent) Ranquist.

Sammy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Swans Island, and volunteered at Swans Island Library. He enjoyed dancing and visiting with his friends and family.

He is survived by his sisters, Rosalie Ranquist, Beverly Turner, Betty and her husband, Rodney Tozier, and Elaine Overlock; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Frederick, Elbert, Herbert, Charles and Carlton; and sister, Freda Ranquist.

Visiting hours will be held 10:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, June 8, at Atlantic Baptist Church, Swans Island, where a funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Interment will be after the service at Rose Hill Cemetery.
