HOLDEN, Maine — An off-duty sheriff’s deputy noticed an erratic vehicle on U.S. Route 1A late Tuesday and notified police to be on the lookout for the driver, who was stopped in town, said Holden Police Chief Gene Worcester.

“The vehicle was weaving all over the road,” Worcester said.

Byron Hodgkins, 30, of Bar Harbor was stopped by Sgt. Gene Fizell around 9:30 p.m. and was given a field sobriety test that he failed. Hodgkins then was given an Intoxilyzer test and his blood alcohol was nearly twice the state’s legal limit of 0.08, Worcester said.

Hodgkins was charged with operating under the influence.
