AUGUSTA, Maine — A homeless man has pleaded guilty to abducting a random woman from the Walmart parking lot in Augusta and robbing her.
Shawn Doray was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to charges including kidnapping in connection with the Dec. 20 abduction. He also was ordered to pay nearly $1,200 in restitution.
Police say Doray, 33, approached the victim in a Walmart parking lot, showed a knife and forced her into the passenger seat of her car. He drove her to an ATM and told her to withdraw money.
When she told him she was unable to make a withdrawal, he took $180 from her and fled on foot.
The Kennebec Journal reports that Doray apologized and said he was high on crack cocaine at the time.

Guess he won’t be such a transient now with a permanent address and 3 squares a day.
“High on crack cocaine”: the low-life notion of mitigating or extenuating circumstances.
Drugs make people do strange things. At least he admitted to it and plead guilty to the charges. Something you rarely see in a lot of these cases, if they even catch the suspect in the first place. Now if only people would come forward and be honest about some other unsolved crimes in our state!
Strange things? Strange would be streaking down the street singing the star spangled banner
I was using “strange” as more of a blanket term to cover appalling, inhuman, effed up things. Better?
Where are those people who claim that drugs and their usage only hurt those who do them? I’m sure the victim in this case would disagree.
It depends on the drug I guess…..I’ve never been robbed by a pot smoker…..
If you pay taxes to fund law enforcement, then you have indeed been robbed by a pot smoker.
maybe if you had a stash of twinkies and brownies.
It’s called personal responsibility. The drugs didn’t hurt anyone, the person using them did.
Right before Christmas……? Because that 180$ was better spent on crack…..right?
ONLY 8 years for abducting a total stanger at knifepoint?! WTH is wrong with these judges? UNREAL.
In all honesty I was just glad to not see the phrase “with all but __ suspended…”

People need to get high on America, rather than drugs. Tall order for a short order cook.
Oh Okay then….as long as that’s the reason I guess that’s fine. Go about your business, neighbor.
Now instead of a tranient, he has a home and meals courtesy of the government.
