BANGOR – Frank R. “Ben” Gunn, 82, died unexpectedly June 5, 2012, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Bangor, son of Frank R. Gunn Sr. and Madlyn A. (Brooks) Gunn.

Ben was a 1948 graduate of John Bapst High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a longtime employee of Frank’s Bake Shop, working more than 50 years and was a lifelong communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church. He expressed his love of music by performing in the St. John’s choir for many years. Ben was also active in Bangor Federal Credit Union, serving many years on the board of directors. As an avid golfer, he continued to play several times a week, both during his winters in Florida and here at home.

Surviving are his wife, Janet (Rand) Ramsdell of Bangor; two children, Michael Gunn and wife, Vickie, of Indialantic, Fla., and Kathy Hayden and husband, Tom, of Glenburn; two special grandchildren, Lindsey and Aaron Hayden, both of Glenburn; two brothers, Patrick Gunn and wife, Norma, of Hampden, and Charles “Chip” Brooks and wife, Sherry, of Bangor; one sister, Linda (Brooks) Demmons of Hermon; two stepchildren, Julie Projansky and husband, David, of Lewiston, and Jeffrey Ramsdell and wife, Tammy, of Bangor; many nieces and nephews, and a large extended family of friends. He will be especially missed by his card partners, Rosie and Bill Ford, and Irene and Bill McLellan; and by his close friends, Connie and Don Soucy. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary L. (Gallant) Gunn, in 2007; and sister, Della Tardiff.

Family and friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor.
