CLIFTON and PHOENIX – Col. John P. Downing Jr., retired, 87, died June 7, 2012, at his home in Clifton.
He is survived by wife, Vera J.; daughter, Mary E. Minctons and husband, the late Ronald P., deceased of Phoenix; daughter, Liz A. and husband, Dennis K. Cox, of Brewer; son, John P. III of Phoenix; daughter, Catherine F. of Boston; stepson, Gilbert L. Christopher Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Phoenix; stepson, John E. Christopher and wife, Cindy, of Bucksport; stepdaughter, Candi McKay of Cumberland, Va.; sister, Nancy B. Robbins and husband, Don, of Sidney; cousin, Winnie Collins of Orange, N.J.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 11, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the parish hall after the service.
