PORTLAND, Maine — Democratic U.S. Senate primary candidate Cynthia Dill greeted voters at the polls outside the Msgr. P.J. Hanagan Parish Center on Ocean Avenue on Tuesday.
“It’s been a great day,” Dill said. “Election Day is my favorite day of the year.”
The race for the U.S. Senate is the main draw as Maine voters go to the polls to decide which Republican and Democratic candidates will appear on November’s ballot for U.S. Senate and House elections.
Six Republicans and four Democrats seeking to fill the seat being vacated by Sen. Olympia Snowe are running in the primary election Tuesday. The GOP also had contested primaries in each of the state’s two congressional districts.
The Senate race has generated the most interest with Snowe’s decision to not seek a fourth term and former Gov. Angus King’s decision to run as an independent.
The candidates in the Republican Senate primary were Rick Bennett, CEO of a corporate watchdog firm; small businessman Scott D’Amboise; state Treasurer Bruce Poliquin; Republican Sen. Debra Plowman; Attorney General William Schneider; and Secretary of State Charlie Summers.
Running in the Democratic primary are state Sen. Cynthia Dill; former Secretary of State Matt Dunlap; state Rep. Jon Hinck; and home builder Benjamin Pollard.
In the Republican House primaries, state Sen. Jon Courtney faced merchant mariner Patrick Calder in the 1st District, and Senate President Kevin Raye faced Navy veteran and building contractor Blaine Richardson in the 2nd District.

I thought April 15th was her favorite day?
that’s her second favorite day…
What type of liberal spooge rag, in the bag for Dill article is this? BDN = Bangor Democrat News
Quimby 2014!
Go, Dill, go!
Right just what we need someone who jumps up and down on Veteran’s Memorial Sites and Memorial Stones honoring dead local soldiers in her State Senate District. Who is also now being paid for by the most hated woman in Maine Roxanne Quimby to force Quimby’s agenda down our throats. Even though folks in Northern Maine have voted and with them saying no to Quimby’s park proposal. Which is also opposed by business groups, sportsmen, Maine Legislature with huge opposition from them, Gov. LePage, Gov. King, Gov. Baldacci all opposing it, and Maine’s Congressional Delegation oppose it. She will likely finish 3rd if it is King and Summers running against her. I think Dill and King will try to cancel each other out because they are two Ultra-Liberals who are running on the same platform basically Anti-Jobs, Pro-Enviro backed. Though King and Summers will batttle each other in the end with that person likely not getting 40% in victory.
Your world view is very narrow and ill informed, indeed. To label Angus King and Cyntihia Dill as “Anti- Jobs” and “Pro-Enviro” is so overly simplified as to sound like it came from a third grader. You must listen to Howie Carr and watch Fox News a lot.
And what is wrong with Howie Carr (WVOM) and Fox News? I know, the only non liberal news outlets in the country. Thankfully it is a three way race. I am a vet, and what she has done is a disgrace to me and the people I have served with.
Well, she won’t be on the ballot…..
There are much better and important days than election day. I would rank opening day of deer season over election day.
Another Debbie Wasserman-Shultz to listen to? I don’t think so!
Can you name a single piece of legislation she ever voted for that harmed the country or are you just parroting Rush Limbaugh? What do you actually know about Wasserman- Shultz other than that talk radio guys tell you to hate her?
The delusional and unseasoned Dill has been propelled to stardom by legions of social Marxists, overwrought effeminates and sloth-like wards of the Nanny State. Her involvement in politics is apropos and in line with her current occupation, which we are told vies for notoriety as one of the oldest pursuits of mankind. She is a wonderful choice for the Democrats! In the intervening months, Mainers will be entertained by an outpouring of avant-garde abstractions that advocate social justice, deficit spending and moral decline.
What about social justice is so abstract for you? Isn’t it quite simple? Let me ask you something: In which state or nation in the history of the world has deregulation, austerity in regards to social safety net programs, neglected infrastructure, lax or non existent environmental laws, lax gun laws, minimal financial regulation etc. lead to great prosperity and plenty?
Go Cynthia…..
Summers for Senate 2012
Dill should brush-up her resume, she’s gonna need it… :-P
