SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Voters in the Skowhegan area approved two ballot questions regarding School Administrative District 54 on Tuesday.
Residents in Canaan, Cornville, Mercer, Norridgewock, Skowhegan and Smithfield approved the $32,332,597 budget for the 2012-2013 school year, 1,136 to 710. Voters in Mercer voted down the measure, 37-26.
In addition to the budget, voters also approved an $883,500 bond for renovations and repairs to schools. The vote was 1,124 to 714.
Voters in Canaan, Cornville and Mercer opposed the bond. Canaan residents voted 82-75 against the bond; Cornville, 64-51, and Mercer, 35-29. Skowhegan overwhelmingly approved it, 807-398.
About $551,000 of the bond money will be used for paving. Repairs are also planned for windows, doors and roof work at district schools and Skowhegan Area High School’s athletic track.
