MACHIASPORT – Allen D. Johnson, 90, died peacefully June 14, 2012, at his home. Allen was born in East Haven, Conn., the son of Hervey Shepard Johnson and Susan (Goodwin) Johnson.
He was a graduate of East Haven High School, class of 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Transport Command in February 1942. He served in the African command until his discharge in November 1945. Allen attended Southern Connecticut Teachers College and Northeastern University. In 1986 he retired from John Hancock Insurance Co. and moved to Machiasport.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Edith Cox; brothers, Shepard Johnson, Franklin G. Johnson and Robert L. Johnson; and one grandson, Darrell Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn; two sons, Allen Johnson and Paul Johnson; a granddaughter, Ellen Smith and husband, Maj. James Smith; a grandson, Kurtis Johnson and wife, Bethany; and two great-grandchildren, Gage and Iris Johnson.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 17, at McClure Funeral Home, corner of Charles and Drisko streets, Machias. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Bucks Harbor Cemetery with Pastor Bill Holmes officiating.
