BELLEVIEW, Fla. – Donald Harvey McMains Sr., born in San Diego in 1933, passed away peacefully April 10, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. He was 78 years old.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Virginia Lane McMains; daughters, Gayle McMains Felker and Yvonne Bonney Mina; a son, Donald H. McMains Jr.; stepchildren, Mark Schedeler, Tina Conroy and Dennis Schedeler; sisters, Marie M. Hall, Kathrynn Aguirre, Sharron Curutti and Donna DeBaca; and brother, Norman “Zeke” McMains. Papa enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren, Abraham and Matthew Svoboda, Max and Abigail Felker, Mitchell Bonney, Bradley and Michael McMains, Jana Treat Morales, James Conners, Christine Britsan, Alyssa Reinhart and Nicholas Schedeler; as well as many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Ellen Anderson McMains and Cecil Warren McMains; his twin brother, Ronald W. McMains; his older sisters, Jean Kent and Lois Mobley; and brothers, Rodney and Cecil McMains Jr.
Donald and his twin brother Ronald served together with the U.S. Air Force at the rank of staff sergeant and saw active duty during the Korea War in 1952. He was stationed in Bangor during the 1950s. Donald will be missed by many. He lived and raised his family in Bangor for nearly 20 years before becoming a Florida resident. He worked as a welder for many years, most notably with Higgins Electric Co., where he made many great friends for life. He finished his career at Emergency-1 Fire Apparatus Fabrication Co., Ocala, Fla., retiring after 15 years as a foreman.
