FAIRFIELD, Maine — One person was killed Monday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash on Route 201 near the I-95 interchange, according to police.
Fairfield police Chief John Emery said authorities aren’t releasing the name, gender or age of the driver until next of kin has been notified.
Emery said the vehicle was heading northbound on Route 201 at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, traveled on the opposite side of a guardrail in the southbound lane, went into the woods and struck a signpost and large tree.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, the chief said. The pavement didn’t have any notable skid marks.
A team from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office will perform a reconstruction on the crash, according to Emery.

many crashes
so many people have died this year from vehicle accidents…so sad!!!
try like the last 2 weeks
What the heck is going on out there?!
Excellent question. It’s getting so that leaving one’s driveway means taking your life in your hands. I find myself constantly having to “watch out for the other guy,” who, more often than not, is in my lane, heading right toward me.
So when you are out driving, more often than not, you’re almost in a head on collision?
Not credible, sorry.
No need to apologize for questioning my credibility. At an advanced (and enviable) age, the opinion of others has no affect on my life. I was simply sharing my experiences on the road. You can verify this by watching the center line, while you’re behind the wheel and taking note of how often oncoming vehicles cross it.
It doesn’t have to be a full on , head-on crash to cause a serious accident.
Stay safe, Jeezum.
Welcome to the world of drivin trucks…you are right, there are way more close calls these days then say,10 years ago.People are not payin as much att. as they should be,be it phones, internet in their cars,or whatever the reason..I have seen people do the dumbest stuff coming at me,at “stop signs”,wrong side of the road, etc…makes me wonder how they even get back and forth to work/town…WAKE-UP people and leave your mind to drivin, even thou you think your the smartest, best driver in the world…guess what…your not
My condolences to family and friends. Way too many accidents lately. Seems like (IMO) that when the weather gets nice, people travel way too fast and cause lots of accidents.
Would really like an update on this story. A co-worker didn’t show up tonite and didn’t call in. Very unlike him and this happened in his neck of the woods.
