CROUSEVILLE – Crystal “Kitty” (Crouse) Cunningham, 88, died June 20, 2012, at Mercy Home Nursing Facility, Eagle Lake. She was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Crouseville, daughter of Abram and Ona (Haynes) Crouse.
Kitty was a graduate of the University of Maine, Presque Isle, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. She held various teaching positions for the five years she spent with her husband, Charles, and family in Madison, Wis., and later for many years in the Head Start program in Moorestown, N.J., where she, Charles and family resided for 25 years, before retiring back to her ancestral home, where she was born, in Crouseville. Kitty loved to quilt, was an avid reader, a gourmet cook and loved dogs. For the past several years she served as vice president of Salmon Brook Historical Society, Washburn.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles of Crouseville; sister, Jo Anne Petersen of Lakeland, Fla.; son, Kent Cunningham of Crouseville; and daughter, Robin Cunningham of Martinsville, N.J. She was predeceased by her son, C.E. Craig Cunningham; sister, Opal Armstrong; and brother, A. Charles Crouse.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, 2 Prospect St., Caribou. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salmon Brooke Historical Society, 1267 Main St., Washburn, ME 04786. There will be a reception after the services in the church dining room.
